MISSION / SUMMARY: The Logistics Manager role is responsible for the safety, employee engagement, productivity, quality, and customer service associated with a 500,000 square foot multi-shift finished goods distribution facility.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
Works directly with and provides leadership to distribution supervision team, each with responsibility for a workforce of approximately 25+/- employees per shift.
Oversees the daily distribution operations to ensure efficiency and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards.
Overall responsible for ensuring materials, supplies, vehicles, equipment are maintained to specifications and to minimize operational impact.
Ensures achievement of safety goals through developing and supporting a culture of following defined safety procedures, encouraging involvement, following up on safety concerns, and modeling proper safe behaviors.
Partners directly with HS&E to ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Ensures desired level of employee engagement within the distribution operation.
This includes developing and supporting a culture of listening and responding to employee issues, taking decisive actions, recognizing excellent performance, and holding employees accountable.
Ensures achievement of quality goals, ensuring employees are properly trained on quality standards, following proper quality procedures, and performing requisite inspections.
Partner directly with QA to ensure adherence to customer quality standards.
Ensures achievement of productivity goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives, providing requisite resources to direct reports, engaging the workforce, and setting appropriate priorities / monitoring progress.
Proactively identifies, develops, recommends, and implements operating policies and ensures the application of such policies.
Coordinates and collaborates with all departments of the plant, vendors, and suppliers.
Facilitates the development and execution of overall department budget.
Effectively communicates both up and down the organization on key issues (e.
g.
, performance reviews, 1-on-1’s, safety meetings, overtime plans, monthly business results, etc.
) Evaluates job performance and recommends appropriate personnel action.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Operations, preferably in a distribution, or logistics environment, which includes exposure to manufacturing operations and business analysis and will have demonstrated strengths in analysis, planning and forecasting and interpersonal skills.
5-7 years of supervisory experience.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree (Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Business Administration, or related field strongly preferred; or, closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
SKILLS: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with various manufacturing and staff departments at the plant, and with groups outside the plant, including vendors.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, including train, coach, mentor, counsel, and discipline.
Strong strategic, analytical problem-solving ability (TCC/Trouble Cause Correction) Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S or other discipline) Ability to utilize time management & multi-tasking skills necessary to execute the responsibilities of the distribution and warehouse function.
Strong computer skills with a focus on Microsoft office applications, QAD experience (preferred) Ability to work independently as well as the ability to coordinate activities with different departments Strong safety orientation Nearest Major Market: Decatur
